Middlebury was difficult to define—small college? small university? both? Why did it matter? This film set out to clarify an issue core to the institution. That takes time, in this case seven minutes, which can be a lifetime in higher ed multimedia. But this film got views, including from many students who told me it helped them understand Middlebury during their application process and rang true to their campus experiences. I developed the concept, did the interviews, built the narrative string of voices, and collaborated with Vermont filmmakers Michael Sacca and Chris Spencer.
